Dynamic opening of boxes with vision and laser

ODYSSEY ROBOTICS has carried out the project entitled “Development of a dynamic box opening system using artificial vision and CO₂ laser”, funded by the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE), included within the PIDI-CV aid program – SME R&D Projects, in the PIDI – SME R&D action, with funding from the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), with the grant awarded being €58,662.09.

The ODYSSEY ROBOTICS project has aimed to develop an innovative automated system for opening box seals in logistics centers, based on the combination of CO₂ laser technology and advanced machine vision systems.

The developed solution allows for precise detection of the seal’s trajectory and dynamic adjustment of the laser beam for safe and efficient opening, eliminating the need for mechanical blades.

This innovation significantly improves operator safety, increases system uptime, and reduces damage to boxes, facilitating their reuse.

Furthermore, the project contributes to the automation of logistics processes, increased productivity, and greater sustainability in the sector, aligning with the principles of Industry 4.0 and the circular economy.
